WILLIAMS , Dorothy Sedgwick (nee Thompson) July 25, 1923 - August 30, 2009 Dorothy Sedgwick Williams of Calgary died peacefully at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre at 7:45 p.m., August 30, 2009 at the age of 86 years. She is survived by two sons, Bob and Jim (Karen) of Calgary. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Ted on June 18, 2008, her parents Florence and William Woodward Thompson, cousin Doug Thompson, and Aunt Lillian Thompson. Born in Calgary on July 25, 1923, she attended Crescent Heights High School and worked as a stenographer-clerk at the Alberta Stock Yards from 1943 until 1948. She married Edwin (Ted) Philp Williams on October 2, 1948 at Hillhurst United Church in Calgary. They lived in Ottawa in the winter of 1948-1949 and in Calgary from June, 1949 on. Dorothy worked as a stay-at-home mom, keeping track of the two boys' activities and providing for them a long-lost tradition, lunch at home on school days. One of her favorite pastimes was listening to the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday afternoon. She knew the plots of most of the operas without looking them up. Dorothy and Ted enjoyed many years of attending Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra pops concerts, Calgary Opera productions, and square dancing with the Highland Swingers. They were faithful members of Wild Rose United Church (formerly Rosedale United Church and North Hill United Church) for many years. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and health care support at Edgemont Retirement Residence, Foothills Medical Centre, and Colonel Belcher Care Centre, where Dorothy resided for varying amounts of time, since August, 2001, and Wild Rose United Church for much appreciated visits. We appreciate over forty years of excellent care provided by family physicians Dr. Patrick Lai and Dr. Robert Westbury and, since December, 2003 by Dr. Eliason at the Colonel Belcher Care Centre. A special thank you is due to caregiver, Lorraine Swift for her do-whatever-is-necessary approach to watching over Dorothy. A private family gathering will be held. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to a charity of the donor's choice in Dorothy's memory.
