SMITH _ Dorothy Loraine (nee Clarke) Words cannot express our sorrow over the untimely loss, on Saturday, August 9, 2003 of our beloved Dorothy, extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and sister. Born in Vancouver on January 4, 1938, she contributed much to the world of which she was a part, affecting many lives. During her 47 years of marriage to Don, besides being the ultimate soul mate, she provided unending devotion, support, and understanding to all aspects of their union. Blessed with four wonderful children, she was their continuing source of love, encouragement, strength and wisdom as they entered adulthood. To her eight grandchildren, she has always been their caring, "mod" grandmother. Currently, her natural affinity for babies has been aroused by the birth of her first great-grandson. Always a faithful companion and trusted confidante, she enjoyed the respect and love of many friends and acquaintances. Unique in several ways, her high principles, family commitment, leadership, loyalty, perceptiveness, feistiness and sense of humour are just a few of her many qualities. She will always live in our hearts. Predeceased by parents, Herman and Olive Clarke and sisters, Margaret and Bertha, she is survived by her husband, Don; children, Sheryl (George), Tony (Tanis), Dawn (Eric) and Todd (Nancy); grandchildren, Mara, Keara, Andrew, Garrett, Lindsey, Tyler, Kirsten and Zachary; great-grandchild Eric; as well as 4 brothers and 4 sisters. The family is grateful for the medical assistance and comfort given by doctors, Marais, Ervin and Kostashuk, the staff of the Ridge Meadows Hospital and the excellent home support provided by the Simon Fraser Health Region. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald Macdonald Children's House. Memorial service and reception to be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2003 at Burkeview Family Funeral Care Facility at 1340 Dominion Avenue, Port Coquitlam.
