Dorothy Jean Holmberg Smith, 83, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro, Georgia. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late Sidney Fair and Frans Gottfrid Holmberg. She and her husband, Walter, established several businesses before her retirement in 1988 including, Smith Brothers Tire Service in Sylvania, SOS Radial Tire in Savannah and finally Smith Bandag Inc. in Largo, Fla. She was a member of the Newington Baptist Church and was active in the Willing Workers Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Norton Smith Sr.; and her daughter, Constance Smith Snead. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Cone Edward II and Kim Smith of Grand Prairie, Texas, Walter N. Jr. and Yvonne Smith of Bethlehem, Ga., and Ken and Marsha Ritchie of Statesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Chris Smith and Bobby Pye of Emerson, Ga., Cathy Smith Brazeal of Marietta, Ga., and Crystal Smith and Terry Ellerd of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two sisters, Thelma Springer and June Wilson, both of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Kim R. Spencer, Brooke R. Dougherty, Norton E. Harley, Ashley Brazeal, Dorothy Diana Smith, Morgan Allison Snead, Nicholas Brazeal, Shea Smith, Cone E. Smith III, Zachary Aaron Snead, Peter Brazeal; and three great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Friday, October 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Newington Baptist Church with Cone Edward Smith II officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery at Longwood Plantation. Pallbearers will be Zachary Aaron Snead, Peter Smith Brazeal, Nicholas Holmberg Brazeal, Bobby T. Pye, Terry Nolan Ellerd and Nicholas Weightman Gross. Honorary pallbearers will be the Willing Workers Class and employees of Southern Manor.
