PIERCE, Dorothy Jane "Dottie" Aug. 21, 1928 - Sept. 24, 2007 Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy Jane went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For the past eight years Dorothy fought a courageous battle against cancer. Her courage, dignity, graciousness, and faith in the Lord have been an amazing example to all of her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Martin Willard Pierce Sr. - they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in June. She is also survived by her 3 children: son Martin Pierce Jr. and his wife Suzie; daughters, Joy Kelly and Tammi Rudge and her husband Wayne, all of Pinellas County; 6 grandchildren, Darek Pierce, Travis Pierce, Kevin Kelly, Diana Pierce, Sara Beth Pierce and Rebecca Rudge; 2 step grandchildren, Jennifer Rudge Hill and Reed Rudge; 3 great-grandchildren, Chancellor and Laina Kelly, and their mother, Stephanie, Garrett Pierce and Garrett's mother Heather; sister Libby Guthrie, Delaware; sisters-in-law Irene Warrington, Delaware, Sarah Whitlock, Georgia, and Lois Darling, Florida; cousin Helen Beebe, Delaware; many nieces and nephews. All of Dorothy's life she was blessed with wonderful, loving and devoted friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Emmer and Ida Cloud; her brothers, Robert, Edward, Harry, Sam and Wallace; and sisters Anna Mae and Sara. Dorothy and Martin moved to Florida in 1956 from Wilmington (Talleyville), DE. In Delaware, Dorothy attended Alfred I. Dupont School. She was a member of the Talleyville All Women Drum and Bugle Corp. In Florida Dorothy was employed as the office manager of Orange Blossom Groves for many years. She and Martin describe themselves as "Professional Volunteers." Wherever there was a need, they were there to help out! Dorothy served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and member of the United Methodist Women group. She was a recent member of the Ladies of the Oriental Shrine. Dorothy served alongside Martin in activities benefiting the Egypt Shrine Childrens Hospital. Dottie and Martin belonged to the Skyway Outboard Association Boat Club, and the Family Motor Coach Association. Dorothy served as the President of the Pink Panthers motor coach chapter. She was vice president of The Southeast area FMCA, and were members of the Rollin' Rebels, Road Runners, and Sandpipers motor coach chapters. Dorothy was the first female to be elected as National President of the Family Motor Coach Assn. in Cincinnati. She was re-elected to the position 3 times, only having to leave office due to term limits. Hobbies included touring the United States by motor coach, making friends, playing cards, dancing with Martin, and spending time with her family. Dorothy was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her graciousness, generosity and loving spirit. God blessed our family with the very best Wife, Mother and Grandmother! A viewing will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 pm at the funeral home, and Thursday, Sept. 27, from 12-1 pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with a Funeral Service at the church at 1 pm.
