HARRINGTON, Dorothy H., of Mayfield, N.Y., passed away August 8, 2009, after a long illness. She was born December 11, 1923, in Schenectady, N.Y., the daughter of John and Ida Filar. She is survived by two loving daughters, Virginia (Larry) Haymaker of Sebring, Fla., and Laurie (Gid) Richardson of Mayfield, N.Y.; and a sister, Jeanette (Fred) Mastrianni. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Harold, and her adored cat, Blue. Dorothy is also survived by her family of in-laws; Mavis (Ben) Miller, Avis (Phil) Hitchcock, Fawn (Earl) Derby and Myron (Peg) Harrington, along with many nieces and nephews. She loved them all dearly. Dorothy' s family and friends meant so much to her. She belonged to Mayfield Presbyterian Church and Chapter 486, Order of Eastern Star. Dorothy graduated in 1941 from Draper High School in Schenectady. She worked at GE and in 1942 married Harold. In 1947 they started Harrington' s Marine Inc. in Mayfield, N.Y., now known as Gordon' s Marine. She and Harold worked side by side until they retired in 1972. They spent winters in Lake Placid, Fla. Dottie enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and many wonderful crafts. "Our family would like to thank Mt. Valley Hospice staff for the wonderful care they gave our mother. Mom' s caregivers became family to her (and us) and she truly loved them all. In lieu of flowers, we request contributions be made to Mt. Valley Hospice or Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church." Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Northville Funeral Home, where a funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Burial will follow in Mayfield Cemetery.
