Reflection of Dorothy Faye Johnson - SAVANNAH - "Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth." Matthew 5:5 On May 6, 2008 before the setting of the sun, God in His infinite wisdom called First Lady Dorothy Faye Johnson from labor to reward. Dorothy was born in Dallas, Texas on July 21, 1946 to the late Morris and Ethel Smith. Dorothy was the seventh sibling of fourteen children. Four Brothers Charles L. Smith (Dollie, Bertha), Troy L. Smith (Joyce), Robert L. Smith (Yvonne), Arthur R. Smith (Alice), and one sister Bobby Baker (John) who preceded her in death. She received her early education in the public schools in Pasadena, California and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1964. She furthered her education at the Pasadena Community College majoring in accounting. She was united in holy matrimony to Willie Earl Johnson on September 12, 1965 in Pasadena, California. From this union three children was born. Mother Johnson was not only a mother to her birth children, but she was also a mother to many who love and sought her advice, both spiritually and naturally. She was known for her sweet, gentle and kind spirit. She spoke very softly and always had a smile and encouraging word for everyone she came in contact with. After moving to Savannah, Dorothy was employed by Savannah State University for almost twenty two years. She worked as an Administrative Secretary for the Office of the President and was currently working as a Human Resource Specialist in the Department of Human Resources. Dorothy also was engaged in the Pathway Teacher's Education Program at Savannah State University. Dorothy confessed Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a true believer in the word of God and was one of God's choices disciples. Dorothy was a faithful, loyal and dedicated worker in the ministries that she was affiliated with to include Lighthouse Full Gospel in Pasadena, California, Lewis Pentecostal Temple in St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., Solomon Temple Savannah, Georgia, Bread of life Savannah, Georgia and Holy Jerusalem Savannah, Georgia. Dorothy was a Missionary and First Lady of Holy Jerusalem Church of God in Christ and First Lady of the Headquarters' District of the Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Southeast Georgia Jurisdiction. She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving and devoted husband, Superintendent, Dr. Willie E. Johnson; two sons, Earl A. Johnson of Rome, GA and Omar M.K. (Sabrina) of Richmond Hill, GA; one daughter, Maisha E. (David) of Richmond Hill, GA; five brothers, Morris ( Carol, Alma) of Altadena, California, Kenneth (Georgina) of Altadena, CA, Oliver (Eloise) of Pasadena, CA, Murray (Wanda) of Duarte, CA, and Leroy (Sandy) of Ontario, CA; three sisters Vivian Charles (Milton) of Altadena, CA, Sheralyn Harmon (Larry) of Duarte, CA and Beverly Ficklin of Palmdale, CA; two brother-in-laws; Charles Johnson (Sonya) of Waverly, VA and Ray K. Johnson (Sandra) of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, one great grandson, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, co-workers from Savannah State University, the Holy Jerusalem Family and the Southeast Georgia Jurisdiction Family. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Fairhaven Funeral Home. A Home Going Celebration will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Church, 4712 Bull St., Savannah, with Bishop Benjamin P Collins officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, California.
