Avis de décès de Dorothy Dot

Dorothy Dot     Tenney, 95     WINDHAM -- Dorothy Dot Tenney, 95, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 4, 2006 at Ledgewood Manor Nursing Home in North Windham after a long illness.      She was born in Westbrook, the daughter of Arthur and Sally McCubrey. She was one of three children, sister Mildred and brother George.      She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Tenney, a career army veteran of both the Korean War and World War II.      Dorothy lived with her husband at a couple of army bases around the country including Fort Devins in Ayer, Mass.      In 1951, they lived in Germany where they adopted their son, Hans.      She then moved with her family to South Portland where she lived for many years and worked as a practical nurse at the Osteopathic Hospital.     Dorothy was a long time member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was involved in many fund-raising events.      She sang and acted in Minstrel shows, playing roles such as Sophie Tucker - complete with black sequined dress and feather boa; she could really belt out a tune. She enjoyed theater and was a big fan of Merv Griffin whom she met while attending his television show.      Dorothy, or Dot, as she was known by one and all, had a wonderful sense of humor and a boisterous and infectious laugh.      Merv Griffin signed her autograph book, To Dot, one hell of a gal!     Dot loved to knit and crochet and gave her creations to friends and family. She loved to play bingo and was active throughout her life.      While in her 80s, Dot wrote her own column, Friends and Neighbors for the Quoddy Tides.     Dot was also a life-long fan of the Boston Red Sox, and to her aspiration, the Sox finally pulled through, winning the World Series in 2004.     She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family members.      Dorothy is survived by her son, Hans Tenney of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; her daughter, Janette Shaw of Buxton; her niece, Jean LeFevre of Hollowell; Richard McCubrey of Buxton; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and even a great-great-grandchild.     An informal memorial gathering will be held by the family at Ellwell Farms Community room on Monday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. Internment will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.     In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local American Legion.    Dorothy Dot     Tenney
