COWLEY, Dorothy 1915 - 2010 Peacefully with her family by her side, Dorothy Cowley passed away on January 26, 2010. Wife of the late Dr. Frank Cowley, mother to Bob (Dorothy), Ruth and grandmother to Lana and Louise Cowley and Katie Despres. She will be fondly missed by her dear friend Elaine Findlay. Predeceased by brother Edward Perry and survived by her sister-in-law Jessie Cowley and several nieces and nephews. Raised in the fishing village of Port Maitland, N.S. Dorothy left home to pursue her education in nursing. She met the love of her life, Frank, as they worked alongside at the hospital in St. Anne-de-Bellevue, QC. She moved to Montreal and Ottawa with her husband before settling in Shawville and raising a family. A maritime girl at heart, she always called Shawville her second home and cherished the many friends she met in town. Before losing her eyesight, she loved handiwork, scrabble and afternoon bridge with the ladies. They spent many winters in Florida. Dorothy's life was filled with fond memories of family, friends and time with her 3 granddaughters who will miss the many sleepovers, stories, sloppy-joes and blueberry muffins. She was an avid storyteller who always loved being in the company of others and never left home without her lipstick. Friends may call at the W.J. Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Saturday, January 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral to follow to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Shawville, for service at 1 p.m. Spring interment Norway Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
