BISHOP, Dorothy Vivian (nee Brenan) Born May 20, 1921 in Toronto, Ont., passed away peacefully on Jan. 24, 2007 in Victoria, B.C. She was pre-deceased by the love of her life, her husband Cyril in 1988. Dorothy is survived by her beloved brother Thomas Brenan (Patricia) of Campbell River, B.C. She is lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, all their children and her many faithful friends. Dorothy met and married Cyril in England where she moved to in 1932. She apprenticed at Hannington's Department Store in Brighton, where she learned her flair for fashion. At the outbreak of war, she served with a subsidiary of the Canadian Legion until the end of WWII. They returned to Canada in 1949. In Toronto she had an interesting career in politics, being elected or appointed to many municipal governing boards. She and Cyril took early retirements and moved to B.C. Dorothy was a respected and devoted volunteer in her new community. She worked tirelessly for years on the Board of Variance for the City of Victoria. She was a talented artist, writer, loved to garden, and she travelled the world. Her lifelong interest in genealogy left a legacy for her family. Thirty years of research uncovered a family history of ancestors dating back over four centuries. Dorothy loved life. She bravely soldiered through serious health issues that would have felled those less determined. Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of her life was in 2002, when she was recognized for all her volunteer efforts and was invited to luncheon with Queen Elizabeth. Dorothy was well loved for her warm, kind and generous spirit. We are grateful to her for sharing her life with us. A celebration of her life will be held on Feb. 24th, 2007, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Officers Club in Naden, 586 Esquimalt Rd., CFB Esquimalt, Victoria B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy's memory to the Victoria Hospice Society. 335897
