Dorothy Baxter Hurley died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, surrounded by her family. Dottie, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Chatsworth, Illinois, in 1917. Moving to Springfield as a young child, she graduated from Central High School where she later worked until she retired from the public school system. Preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mabel Baxter of Springfield and one sister Barbara Louise Gold, also of Springfield. Dottie is survived by her son, John Patrick Hurley and his wife, Gail, of Ash Grove, Mo.; grandson Edward Hurley of Ash Grove, Mo., his wife, Danielle, and great-grandchildren, Mia and Aaron; granddaughter Caroline Hogan, her husband, Darrel, and great-grandchildren, Hunter and Laura, of Ozark, Mo.; grandson John Hurley, Jr. of Ash Grove, great-granddaughter Callie; her daughter Pam Hurley Stettnisch and husband, Ruben, of Bella Vista, Ark., granddaughter Geri Collins Lovelace of Bentonville, Ark., and great-granddaughters, Elizabeth Lovelace and Alyx Lovelace, also of Bentonville, Ark.; granddaughter Heather Rhew and her husband, Michael, of Huntsville, Ark.; and last but not least, her devoted companion and friend Dan, a yellow lab. Dottie was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Springfield. Her family and friends will remember her for her love of children and animals. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, in Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut St., with Rev. Ellen Brantley and Rev. O.V. Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at: www.hhlohmeyer.com.
