Doris M. Quinn, 77 years old of Springfield, Mo. died Thursday morning March 4, 2010. She was born the daughter of Berlin and Margaret (Dennis) Dormire on September 19th, 1932 in Quincy, Ill. She grew to adulthood near Mt. Sterling, Ill. attending grade school in a one room country school and high school in Mt. Sterling. She attained her nursing degree at Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Ill. and worked several years as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric, pediatric and finally surgical nursing at University of Iowa Hospitals. She married her high school sweetheart, Paul S. Quinn, June 13, 1954 in the church of their youth in Cooperstown, Ill. She supported her husband through school, and then became a full time homemaker in 1961, rearing their two sons and daughter in Springfield, Mo. In addition to her parenting activities she spent many years working in the Cox Hospital Auxiliary in which she served as president. She was a long time member of the Home Design Art Group and also held offices including president of that group. She had many hobbies and personal interests including gardening, cooking, sewing and travels. She was extremely fortunate to have visited China, as well as many trips to Ireland, Europe, Turkey, and to South America including Peru and the Galapagos Islands. Her most enjoyable travels however were the many summer trips to Colorado with her children and grandchildren. She attended Strafford United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 55 years, her sister Dorothy Coplan, her sons and their spouses Dr. Rodney Quinn (Robin), Dr. Steven Quinn (Linda), her daughter Lora Quinn Soetaert (Donald) and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Monday, March 8th, in Springfield, Mo. with the Reverend Eugene Nicholson officiating, under the direction of Gorman- Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Illinois in Cooperstown.Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cox College Scholarship Fund, for nursing students, 3525 S. National Suite 204, Springfield, Mo. 65807 or to Strafford United Methodist Church, 200 S. Jefferson St., Strafford, Mo. 65757.
