MAURO, Doris Grace (nee Birch) November 6, 1920 July 16, 2009 Mum has finally completed her journey here on earth, and gone to rejoin her family. She passed peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter at her side. The youngest of eight children, she was born in Victoria, B.C., where she met and married Doug (Douglas Joseph) Mauro in 1941, who at the time was a band Sergeant in the Canadian Army. They lived in Vernon, B.C. before moving to Vancouver and subsequently to Norgate" in North Vancouver in June 1949. Doris had 2 children: Sherry (Sharon) Mauro (of Nanaimo) and Stanley Mauro (April 12, 1951 August 23, 2008); 6 Grandchildren: Lyle Parsons, Michelle (Parsons) Burry, Tanya, Renee, Tyler & Shea Mauro; and several great grandchildren with whom she got to spend time with and enjoy before her passing. As well, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, all who thought the world of her. An avid curler, Mum competed well, and in doing so she made many long time friendships which she treasured. Mum was always known for her care for others, her independent and feisty nature, her sense of FUN, and will be remembered fondly by those she leaves behind. Special thanks to those special people who watched over her toward the end of her days -Bruce, Donna, and several true friends who still visited and showed their love. Also thanks to Dr. Bryan Norton for his kindly attention. A family memorial will be held at a later date. No flowers by request but if you wish to remember Doris contributions can be made in her name to BC Children's Hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation, Cancer Society, or Alzheimer Society of BC. 552024
