GOODWIN, Doris Lenore Carol nee Godecki 1953 - 2010 Peacefully in her sleep our beloved Doris passed away on June 8, 2010. She was predeceased by her father Anthony and her husband Ron Swerdfagen. Leaving to mourn are her mother Nina Godecki, three brothers, three sisters and their families. Donna (Murray) Simmons, Tony (Geraldine) Godecki, Erna (John) McCrindle, Leona (Bill) McEwan, Alan (Jen) Godecki, and Joel (Lori) Godecki. Doris moved from Thunder Bay to Ottawa as a young woman and established herself in business excelling in public relations and marketing. Seventeen years ago Doris suffered a spinal cord injury that left her a quadraplegic. She was determined to make the best possible life for herself regardless of her limitations. Her courage and strength left us with a profound respect for her. With hard work, organization and determination, she accomplished whatever she set out to do, from learning how to write again to driving her van. Doris loved to entertain and socialize in her beautiful home and would often have get-togethers on her deck with her friends, or have special dinners with fabulous foods. She also loved her gardens and spent many hours planning just the right flowers to put in just the right place. She helped others in her position and volunteered at the hospital comforting and supporting people coping with the changes in their lives. There are no words that can really describe how special Doris was to her family and friends. We wish to thank her very good friends Ursula, Bernie, Jo-Anne, Lyse and Marjorie for their love and support for Doris for many years. We will miss you Doris. We will miss your bright eyes, your easy laugh and your love for life. No more suffering and pain. We know that you are walking again, probably even running. Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Thunder Bay at a later date. The family would like to invite Doris's friends to a celebration of her life on Sunday, June 20th, between one and four o'clock.
