UNITY -- Doris Reed, 92, went to be with the Lord as she died peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010. She was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Springfield, Mass., to Bernard and Amelia (Seidel) Lawliss. Her father died when she was 3 weeks old, and she and her sister were subsequently adopted and raised by an aunt and uncle during the Great Depression.Doris's marriage to Charles Reed in May 1939 lasted for 63 years, until Charlie died in 2002 at age 90. Together they raised a family while operating Reed's Drug Store for 30 years. For decades, Doris attended the Unity Union Church, sang in its choir, and cherished her friendship with its members and her neighbors. She enjoyed gardening, painting, reading novels and the daily newspaper, playing bridge, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family. Her genuine warmth for others was her trademark. For the last decade, Doris -- always independent -- lived alone, and she had just renewed her driver's license. Doris is survived by her loving children and their families, Jim and his wife, Susan Wolford, of Montville, Jude and her husband, D. Ward Gagner, of Bangor, and Andy and his wife, Gayle, of Unity; three granddaughters, Deanna Gagner of Augusta; Laura Reed of Old Town, and Krista and her husband, Kevin Todd, of Bangor, and their daughters, Natalie and Lena Todd. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Lawliss, and his wife, Dorothy, who reside in West Springfield, Mass.There will be no visiting hours at the request of the family. A memorial service will be held later in the spring so that friends may share stories and attend the burial at Unity Pond Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Unity Union Church, P.O.
