Doris Elizabeth Higgins, 95, of Eastham passed away peacefully February 6, 2010 at The Orleans Convalescent Home. She was born June 16, 1914 in Salem, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, Grace Verry and Guy Clifford Larcom and by her brothers Guy Clifford, Jr. and Paul Franklin. She graduated from Medford High School and attended secretarial school in Boston. Doris married the love of her life, John Worthen Higgins, Jr. August 29, 1936 in the Harvard Memorial Chapel. Married to a Naval Officer, Dorie had a gift for interior decorating and created warm, loving, comfortable homes for her family wherever John was called to serve (throughout the United States and Europe). He retired in 1968 in Key West, FL where they enjoyed boating, fishing and many wonderful friends. Dorie managed the gift shop in the Martello Towers Museum where she displayed and sold her unique ceramic flower arrangements. Dorie and John summered in Eastham throughout their marriage. John passed away in 1993 and Dorie moved to Eastham year round in 1995 where she enjoyed her home, gardens, family and many new friends. She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Higgins Howard and her husband Ronald of Haddonfield, NJ, Carolee Higgins Perrin and her husband George of Homestead, FL; her son, Paul Worthen Higgins and his wife Christina of Eastham, MA; and 10 beloved grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren! Dories sense of humor and blithe spirit could light up any room. Her laughter and love will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
