Family and friends of Doris E. Davis, 86, Ormond Beach, who died Tues., May 15, 2007, at Ormond Memorial Hospital, invite you to join them in a celebration of her life at 5 p.m. Wed., June 13, 2007, at Lohman Funeral Home, Ormond Beach Chapel, 722 W. Granada Blvd. Her family will receive friends before the service from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Dickie was born Nov. 3, 1920, to Joseph Albert and Louise Dillman Williams. A graduate of Fort Pierce High School, she attended Virginia Intermont Finishing School and then Stetson University, where she graduated in 1942 with a major in English and a minor in voice. While there she met William M. Davis who would become her husband for the next 61 years. After graduating she worked as a teacher for a short period and as a newspaper reporter in Savannah, Ga., before continuing her teaching career at Eglin Air Force Base. Dickie was a master gardener who won many awards for gardening and flower arranging. Throughout her rich life she journeyed all over the world and her home artfully reflected her travels. A fervent proponent of animal and environmental rights, she was known for expressing her passionate support in letters to the editor and for religiously feeding her neighborhood squirrels every morning. Involved in cultural arts, she supported the Choral Society, Symphony Society and The Florida International Festival. She was a dedicated bridge player and a member of a local garden club and bridge club. She had a gracious word for everyone. "Dickie," as she was known to her friends, is survived by her daughters, Kevin Davis, and Lynda Wilson; sister, Betty Owens; and four grandchildren, Jenna Wilson, Tyra Roberson, Josh Lanning and William Lanning, all of whom will cherish her memory.
