Donna M. Smith-Begin died peacefully on Dec. 19, 2010, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. She was 56. Visiting is at the Wilfred Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Dr., Kearny, on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be prayers held at 6 p.m. Private cremation will follow. Born in Newark, Donna lived most of her life in Bloomfield before achieving her dream of living at the shore with her loving husband, Bob. Her proudest accomplishment was that of being a devoted mother to her son, Michael, who she inspired to become a strong and successful leader. Her independent spirit and unique flare for life was deeply seeded in her strong Italian family. Donna is survived by her parents, Anthony "Ski" and Gloria Scocozza. Donna was the wife of Robert Begin, and formerly married to Walter Smith, she is also survived by her son, Michael and his companion, Laura Powell. She was the sister of Lynn Oelz (Robert), John Scocozza (Margaret), and Nancy Scocozza (Chris Lackey). Donna also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Mary Teti; sister-in-law, Kathy LeMay, and stepson, Bobby Begin.
