MATHESON, Donald T. July 24, 1931 - December 21, 2015 Passed peacefully at home with family by his side. He will be sorrowfully missed by his wife Mary; his sister Margaret (Jack); his daughters Jill (Henry), Julie (Calvin), Jaye (Steve), and Dawn (John); and his grandchildren, Kaleigh, Nicholas, Hilary, Georgia and Alison. Born in Vancouver Don graduated from King George High School in 1949 and in 1955 he was transferred to Victoria with a sales position with Edward Lipsett Ltd. Thus, began a distinguished career in the Marine Industry. Don joined Canoe Cove Marina in a sales capacity in 1959. In 1973 he became an owner and president of Canoe Cove Manufacturing. Under his leadership the company became a stalwart of Pacific Northwest boat construction, producing over 700 boats of various sizes. He was the President of Allied Boating Canada from 1984 to 1990. He had a keen sense of community, was a member of the Gyros, the chairman of a very successful United Way campaign in Sidney and was made an Honorary Citizen of the City for community service by Victoria''s Mayor in 1984. He was a founding member of Victoria''s Racquet Club and an avid curler, volunteering for the committees of Victoria''s 1984 Brier and 2005 World Championships. Don was a supporter of all things Canadian including, the CFL, his beloved Canucks and especially Tim Horton''s. Of all his accomplishments he considered his attaining the status of Grandparent his crowning achievement and time spent with his grandchildren was of endless enjoyment for both grandfather and grandchild. Referred to by many as a true gentleman, Don will be fondly remembered by all who had the opportunity to have known him.
