MacKENZIE, Donald SidneyAugust 20, 1923 - June 30, 2017Don passed away peacefully at the Perley and Rideau Veterans'' Health Centre, now joining his wife Muriel (nee Kelvin) who passed three years ago. He is survived by his sister-in-law in BC, Margaret Hartley. Papa Don will be dearly missed by his grandchildren Sydney, Tait and Madi, their mother Pam, her sister Donna, and son-in-law Marc. He was a kind, loving, optimistic man…a husband, father and papa devoted to family…a man with boundless energy and a passion for life. Don enjoyed simple things-the beauty of a sunset, a double double, his morning newspaper. He was a proud WWII veteran (48th Seaforth Highlanders) and a retired firefighter-"Boomer" to his colleagues at the Vancouver Fire Department. Papa Don was a gentle soul who made everyone, strangers and friends, feel appreciated. We miss him so much already, but his spirit will live on in all of us. Loving thanks to his devoted caregivers Nenita and Jill, to his trusted physician Dr. Mansour, and more recently the caring staff at the Perley. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice. A celebration of Don and Muriel''s 63 years together will be held at a later date.
