Donald R. Of Greenridge Dr., Horseheads, peacefully passed away on July 10th. He was born April 1, 1940, the son of the late Theodore and Ruth (Robbins) Peterson. Don graduated from Elmira Free Academy, St. Lawrence University, and received his Masters in Science from Penn State University. He served for 2 years in the US Army. He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Lisa (Chris) Grace of Cortlandt Manor, NY; son, Rob and fiancée, Lori Witt, of Ithaca, NY; sister, Elin Peterson of Dundee, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Karen Kermani of Albany, NY; grandchildren, Emily and Natalie Grace; and several nieces and a nephew. Don was president of Fairway Spring Co., founded by his father Ted in 1947. He worked very hard to keep the business a vital part of this community. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads where he served on many committees, but his two passions were singing in the choir and teaching young people in Sunday School. Having grown up in Elmira, Don felt strongly about giving back to his community. He served on the Horseheads School Board for 12 years. He was instrumental in the merger of the Elmira Symphony and Corning Philharmonic into the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes, which recently celebrated its 10th season. He served on the Board of the Arnot Ogden Medical Center where he was Chairman of the Board for four years. Don also served many years on the boards of the United Way and the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce. Don loved his family, his church and his community. He will be missed by many. Family and friends are invited to call in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, 1034 W. Broad St., Horseheads, on Friday, July 14th, from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 p.m. His service will be celebrated at the church on Saturday, July 15th, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Robert O.
