Donald M. Fleming April 19, 1927 - January 18, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Fleming on January 18, 2016 at Lions Gate Hospital. Don slipped away peacefully of complications resulting from pneumonia. He leaves behind his sons Mark (Lesley), Don Jr. and Doug (Dee), grandchildren Justin, Dalana, Crystal, and John, great grandchildren Max, Sasha and Peter, his brother John and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by this wives: Margaret (Dennie), Marg (Metcalfe) and Dorothy (Dornoval), his son, Gord (Kristine), and grand daughter, Jordana.Don's love of people, his spirit of unfailing community service, for which he had been honoured, and his generosity, touched the lives of so many. His children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family, were the focus of his never ending caring and great joy, as were his friends, and the community of West Vancouver that he loved so much.As a child, his family moved to West Vancouver from Alsask, Saskatchewan and established their lives in Ambleside, starting a hardware business. Eventually, Don opened his own and operated West Van Hardware for many years before changing the business to West Van Furniture. During his retirement, Don continued to be very active and enjoyed playing seniors' tennis and ice hockey until the age of 83. The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of Capilano Care where he spent the last six years, his friend and caregiver, Ava Friesen, as well as the Lions Gate Hospital Emergency and Acute Care teams who ensured Don's comfort in his final days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Lions Gate Hospital Foundation or North Shore Hospice Society.A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6th at 2pm.
