DIUGUID Virginia Davis Diuguid, age 99, died Thursday, September 20, 2007. She was a resident of Vicar's Landing in Ponte Vedra Beach. The daughter of Alton Norman Davis and Lillian Thatcher Davis, she was born in West Union, West Virginia on November 22, 1907. Her husband, Stephen Sampson Diuguid, and her sisters, Frances Davis Bibbens and Esther Davis Beadnell, predeceased Virginia, better known as Ginny. Ginny grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1930,where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She and Stephen were married in l931 and settled in Oak Park, Illinois. They subsequently moved to Rochester, New York, where they reared their two children, Stephanie and Philip. In 1953 she and her husband moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where they lived the last years of their lives. At the time of Stephen's death in 1993, the Diuguids were married for 63 years. In Rochester Ginny was active in the local PTA in the Brighton School District. In addition she was a member of Oak Hill Country Club, playing golf there regularly. Ginny loved the game and played it from age 15 to age 85. She was a communicant of St Thomas Episcopal Church for 13 years in Rochester. Following their move to Jacksonville, Ginny and Stephen became active members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. As participants in Faith Alive and Curcillio, the Diuguids traveled for several years, visiting other church groups in the southeast. Ginny continued her golfing at Timuquana Country Club. An avid animal lover from childhood, she was always a consistent supporter of different animal rights' groups, both locally and nationally. Ginny is survived by her two children: Stephanie Diuguid Kuhling (Bob) and Philip Davis Diuguid (Mary), seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Stephen Reynolds Ira; Cynthia Tompkins Ira Reynolds(Perry); Gregory Thatcher Ira (Ami); Clifford Whipple Ira; Stephen Bradford Diuguid (Amy); Christopher Compton Diuguid (Denise); Philip Davis Diuguid, Jr. (Sheila). Virginia was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Drive, Ponte Vedra Beach,32082, where her services will be held on Tuesday, September 25th at 11:00 A. M. There is a reception following in the parlor at Vicar's Landing, Ponte Vedra Beach. Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250 (904-249-2374) is in charge of memorial arrangements. Ginny will join her husband in the Bishop's Garden at the St. John's Cathedral in downtown Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ Episcopal Church Foundation or the Jacksonville Humane Society, 8464 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, 32216.
