Diane-B. Eaton, née en 1947, conjointe de David Eaton, fille de Donald et Harriet, est décédée le 30 avril 2009 à l'âge de 62 ans.
WAKE FOREST, N.C. - Diane Bunker Eaton, 62, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at her home in the presence of her beloved husband of 42 years, David. She was born Diane Bunker, March 12, 1947, the daughter of Donald and Harriet (True) Bunker of Brewer. Diane was a graduate of Brewer High School, Class of 1965, and the University of Maine, Orono, where she earned a Bachelor of Education degree in elementary education in 1969 and a Master of Education in teaching reading in 1971. After teaching in the Old Town and Rockland school systems from 1970 to 1979, she and David, also from Brewer and Brewer High School, Class of 1963, began an exciting career in international schools. This journey took Diane and David to the following destinations: Cairo American College, Cairo, Egypt; Yanbu International School, Yanbu, Saudi Arabia; International Community School of Abidjan, Abidjan, The Ivory Coast, West Africa; International School of Beijing, Beijing, China; International School Eastern Seaboard, Burapha, Chonburi, Thailand; and finally NISC - Northbridge International School Cambodia, Phnom Penh. After teaching nine years at NISC, Diane retired from teaching in June 2006, deciding on Wake Forest, N.C., as the place to be. Though Diane and David had no children of their own, Diane is remembered with deep affection by hundreds of her loving students from all throughout the world. She will especially be missed by her goddaughters, Christine, Grace and Joyce Khor from Malaysia. Diane is survived by her loving husband, David; and two sisters, Carol Tracy of Bucksport and Mary Kidder of San Marcos, Calif. Diane was cremated Monday, May 4, in the presence of David and friends at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Raleigh, N.C. David plans to conduct a memorial service for Diane May 24 at the school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. After Diane's nine years as a teacher at NISC, and David's 12 years as the founding school head, they made numerous close friends, within both the expatriate and local Khmer - Cambodian communities. David will return Diane's ashes to Maine sometime in July, where Diane will be laid to rest beside her parents at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, after a private memorial service. Here is an especially appropriate Web site where you can, if you wish, donate to the cause of fighting breast cancer in Diane's name: www.the 3day.org/site/PageServer. "The 3day" designates an upcoming walk to take place across America to emphasize that breast cancer must be fought hard and defeated. If you wish, you might support the team of Ms. JoEllen Bingham of Wake Forest, N.C., whose walk is scheduled Oct. 9 in Washington, D.C.
