Dewey's life began on June 2, 1946, in Bell Buckle, TN, the elder of two sons born to the late Dewey "Sid" Parker and Gladys Robinson. After his 1964 graduation from Holloway High School in Murfreesboro, TN, Dewey was drafted into the U.S. Army, attending Officers' School and attaining the rank of Captain. After obtaining his real estate appraisal license and college degree, he began his own business, building a reputation for quality of work and honesty that brought clients in sufficient numbers to allow him to operate as an independent fee appraiser for the next 35 years until his death. Officially a member of St. John UMC before a merge with St. Andrew to form St. Peter UMC, Dewey was active in the church's Men's Club and a frequent volunteer for various church projects.
