Deborah Ellen Stellar (nee Wilson), 56, of Schnecksville, Pa., lost her courageous four-year battle with ovarian cancer and passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, in her home. Funeral services are at 3 p.m., Friday, March 19, in Heintzelman Funeral Home, 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, Pa., with Rev. Raymond J. Hand officiating. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com. Born in Summit, N.J., on April 13, 1953, and raised in Colonia, N.J., Debbie was the daughter of William F. and Elvia B. (Fox) Wilson of Seaside Park, N.J. She graduated from Colonia High School in 1971 and earned her BA degree in education from Elizabethtown College in 1975. While in college, she met her future husband, Anthony George "Tony" Stellar, of Allentown, Pa., and was married in 1979. Together they moved to Schnecksville, Pa., and raised three wonderful children, TJ, Derek and Dana. As a child, Debbie spent all of her summer vacations in Seaside Park, where she became an accomplished sailor and her love for Barnegat Bay grew strongly. She sailed many types of boats including Diamonds, Sunfish, Sneakboxes, M-scows, E-scows, A-cats and Sandpipers. Still an active member of the Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association (BBYRA), some of her sailing achievements include a BBYRA Championship in Sneakboxes, three-time Women's World Champion in A-Cats and many S.P.Y.C. championships. She had been sailing recreationally and competitively since 1961 and had mastered her skills sailing throughout the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Sea with family and friends. Debbie was also an outstanding lifetime member of the Seaside Park Yacht Club, where she became the first woman commodore of that club. She followed in the footsteps of her father, Bill, who held that office as commodore some 30 years before Debbie. While commodore, Debbie provided leadership and helped the club celebrate its "100th Anniversary" in grand fashion. After graduating from college and moving to Allentown, Debbie taught at Salisbury High School from 1977 to 1985. While there, she coached girls J.V. basketball, junior varsity softball and varsity softball. As a longtime resident of Schnecksville, Pa., Debbie was very involved with her children and their athletic teams. She generously volunteered endless hours raising money for Northwestern Lehigh High School through fundraisers. She was president of the Cross Country Booster Club for three years, president of the Boys Basketball Booster Club for four years and president of the Girls Basketball Booster Club for three years. While her daughter attended Lehigh University, Debbie became founder and president of the L.U. Cross Country Booster Club and the L.U. Track and Field Booster Club. However, throughout her wonderful life, no job was more important or rewarding to Debbie than that of being a "Mom." In addition to her loving husband and parents, also surviving are children, Anthony William "TJ" Stellar, Derek Evan Stellar and Dana Ellen Stellar, all at home, and brother, Keith W. Wilson and his wife, Lynn, of Easton, Pa. Her extended family and multitude of friends will miss her dearly.
