CARTER Deacon James, was born May 20, 1933. He departed this life on Thursday, May 13, 2010. Deacon Carter was born in Passaic, New Jersey. Deacon Carter actively participated in the lives of his children by coaching little league, teaching them to fish and crab and sharing his love of Christ. He tried to help anyone in need and was affectionately called "Uncle James" or "Deac" by many.Deacon Carter was a lifelong learner. He retired after thirty years at Hoffman La Roche Pharmaceutical Company. In retirement he furthered his education and began teaching at Gray High School and a local college. Deacon Carter believed that it was his duty to provide mentoring to young men at risk. He endeavored to provide them with skills and values to help them achieve. Deacon Carter was also a student of the Bible. Throughout his life, he was a servant of the Lord's. He was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church by his father-in-law, Reverend Lucius Walker. Deacon Carter had many leadership roles ranging from Sunday School teacher to Trustee to Deacon. He truly loved the Lord. After he retired, Deacon and Deaconess Carter moved to Gray Georgia. They joined Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he continued to serve on the Deacon Board. Deacon Carter will be missed by many. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Harriet Walker Carter, one brother, Robert Carter of New Jersey; a brother of his heart, Irving Carter of Maryland; five children James Carter of Maryland, Bryan Carter of New Jersey, Taryn Carterwyche of Georgia, Laurie Carter Robinson of New Jersey and Jason Carter of Georgia; two sons-in-law, Michael Wyche and Gary Robinson; one daughter-in-law, Yolanda Carter; brother in-laws, David Walker and William Lewis; sisters-in-law, Carol Walker, Sadie Walker and Marilyn Lewis; four grandchildren Mark Carter, Joseph Carter, Willie Dawkins and Carter Robinson; granddaughter-in-law Crystal Dawkins; two grandchildren of the heart Antorius and Akeidre Pitts and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.A homegoing service will be held at Mt. Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at noon with repast immediately following in the fellowship hall of the church.
