SIMMONS, David William March 14, 1958 - November 10, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Simmons. After a two year battle with lung cancer, David passed away at the Juravinski Hospital Palliative Care Unit on November 10th, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 25 years Donna (nee Fraser), son Galen, daughter Rhianna, and brothers Ronald and Gerald and mother Marian of Kenora. He is also survived by his aunt Irene Wills and uncle Peter Plante as well as many cousins. David was born and grew up in Kenora, Ontario. After graduating from high school in 1977, he attended Queen's University at Kingston where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1981 and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1983. In 1983 he moved to Ottawa where he joined Northern Telecom (Nortel) as an integrated circuit designer. From 1983 to 1999 David worked in a variety of positions including integrated circuit design, engineering management, project management, product management and marketing. In 1999 he left Nortel to join Gennum Corporation in Burlington as Director of Product Development. In 2007 David left Gennum to become an independent consultant, performing work for CMC Microsystems in Kingston, the Ontario Centres of Excellence in Waterloo and CertiChip Inc. in Waterloo. He retired in February of 2010 as a result of his illness. David was a licensed member of Professional Engineers of Ontario and a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers. The family would like to thank Dr. Ellis and Dr. Slaven and the staff at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and the Juravinski Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Hamilton for their excellent care and treatment during David`s illness. He will be forever grateful to the level of compassion and professionalism they showed to him and his family during his brief stay. Cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance will be held at CARLISLE UNITED CHURCH, 1432 Centre Road, Carlisle on November 15, 2010 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow in the church hall.
