David M. Robinson, III, 80, passed away October 20, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, N. Ruth Robinson of Schenectady, New York. He is also survived by his children, David M. (Iris) Robinson, IV of Virginia, Hazel (Dan) Balkum, Guy Robinson, Nancy (Ralph Bowmen, Jr.) Robinson, Deneise Robinson, Dawnn Robinson, Renn (Jarrod) Goodwin, and Dr. Scharn Robinson, Esq. of Maryland. David was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Robinson; his father, David M. Robinson, Jr.; his brother, Samuel B. Robinson; and his daughter, Karen L. Robinson. David also leaves behind his beloved nephews, Samuel (Deborah) Robinson, Jr. and Richard (Arlene) Robinson; their mother, Marilyn Robinson; two great-nephews and a great-niece. David was born in South Boston, Virginia in 1929 to David Robinson, Jr. and Nancy Ford Robinson. He moved with his family to Albany as an infant. After graduating from Albany High School, where he ran track and was known by the track team as "the Duke," he played on a basketball team called "the Crusaders." David attended Russell Sage College. After leaving college, he was employed by Watervliet Arsenal for 16 years as a purchasing agent. In 1969, David moved his family to Schenectady. While in Schenectady, David worked for Longley-Jones Management Corp. for five years as a maintenance mechanic and then Schenectady Municipal Housing Authortiy from 1977 to 1994, where he was promoted to foreman. David joined the Morning Star Baptist Church as a young man under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Moses Scipio Hunter. He was ordained as a deacon, active in youth ministries, and sang in the choir. After moving to Schenectady, David joined Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Carl B. Taylor. At Friendship, he served as a deacon, usher, pastor's aide, and sang in the men's choir. In 2003, he joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany, where he also served as a deacon and sang in the men's choir under Rev. Leonard D. Comithier, Jr. During his life, David was very committed to the betterment of youth in the community. He served as a volunteer mentor for the Whitney Young Adopt a Student Program and Lincoln School. David was also a dedicated court appointed specialist advocate (CASA) worker for several years and served on the police review board. Funeral service will be held Monday, October 26, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany, NY. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Service begins at noon and will be followed by interment in Graceland Cemetery. Garland Brothers Funeral Home of Albany, NY.
