David L. Valliere, 60 YARMOUTH -- David Leon Valliere, 60, of Pownal died Dec. 31, 2008, after a long illness. He was born on Dec. 8, 1948, in Berlin, N.H., the son of Sybil (Estabrook) and Leo Valliere. David was a graduate of Freeport High School and played basketball for the Freeport Falcons team. During that time he was a volunteer Junior Fireman for the Freeport Fire Department. David went on to college at USM and majored in English. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CVA-19) for four years which saw action off the coast of Vietnam during the war. On July 24, 1971, David married the love of his life, Lori Jewett, and together they had four beautiful children. David grew up with trains as a boy and his love of them led to his job with the Maine Central Railroad. In his spare time he loved the beach, camping, 'Sunday' drives, hikes and playing golf. He was known for his great stories that captivated everyone. Family values were an important part of David's life. He took pride in helping his grampy and parents, watching his children play in numerous sports and early morning landscaping with his boys. David lived his life with pride, hard-work and empathy for everyone around. He will be remembered for his generosity, words of wisdom and singing lullabies while gently rocking his children. He was a loving husband, father and grandpa. David is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lori Valliere of Pownal; his daughter Danielle Valliere and her husband Tad Hunt of Calif., his son Justin Valliere and his wife Danielle of Maine, his son Aaron Valliere and his wife Crystal of Maine, his daughter Jenna LeMay and her husband Jeff of Maine; his sister Judith Jackson of New Hampshire, his sister Susan Palmer and her husband Robert Sr. of Maine, his brother Michael Valliere and his wife Cindi of Illinois, his brother Thomas Valliere and his wife Patricia of Michigan; his grandson Chase Byron Valliere and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Dean Jackson. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, from 4-7 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Freeport at 10 a.m. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yarmouth. The Valliere family has created a memorial of David's life and it is available at www.mem.com.
