->David Ernest Williams1936 - 2015BELGRADE LAKES - David Ernest Williams, 78, passed away on March 31, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 16, 1936, in Waterville, the son of Ernest and Juanita (McClellan) Williams.He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1954, then continued his education by attending and graduating from the University of Maine at Orono with a Bachelor of Arts degree in math and physics in 1963 and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1975. He also attended Trinity College. On June 13, 1959, he married Eleanor P. Small in Portland.David was a veteran who proudly served his country in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. He was employed by the United Aircraft Corporation Systems Center as a systems analyst from 1963 to 1967 and worked at the Maine Department of Transportation as a bridge designer and utilities engineer for 28 years. He was involved in many community and civic organizations and had been a member of ASCE since 2007; past member (30 years) and past president of the Waterville Kiwanis Club; member of the Union Church UM; active missions and finance committee; Weebelo scout leader; Little League coach; NHI scholarship program at UMO from 1974 to 1975.He loved his family, entertaining friends, and cruising Great Pond on his pontoon boat. He loved travel, adventure and salmon fished in Meramachee, skied at Vail, hiked Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon, visited six European countries, Hawaii, Bermuda, and Myrtle Beach. He loved the University of Maine, attended many baseball, football, and hockey games and saw University of Maine win Hockey East in 1993 at the Old Boston Garden.David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eleanor P. (Small) Williams of Belgrade Lakes; son, Scott D. Williams of Hull, Mass., daughter, Karen Anne Williams of Belgrade Lakes; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Juanita Williams; and two brothers, Charlie Williams and Alden Kittridge.A memorial service will be held May 9, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Union Church United Methodist, Belgrade Lakes, with Joseph Chamberland officiating. A reception in the Friendship Hall at the church will follow the service.
