CARIBOU and CROSS LAKE - David C. Whitmore, 66, found peace and rest Dec. 21, 2009, after a yearlong struggle with lung cancer, in Fort Kent. He was born Aug. 4, 1943, at home on the Bowles Road, Caribou, the son of the late Colby and Helena (McQuade) Whitmore. Dave spent his life following in his father's footsteps and raising potatoes on the home farm on the Madawaska Road, Caribou. His love of working the land and watching things grow as he said, was one of the most important things in his life. Family and friends were the things he treasured. His love of playing golf always reached its peak when he played a round or two with his sons and grandsons. Whether it was playing golf, mowing fairways, spending time with the guys at Caribou Country Club or spending time at his "second home," Guerrette Sales, it rounded out his life to his complete satisfaction. He liked having the opportunity to help out his friends and neighbors and he enjoyed the good times that brought to him. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Deanna (Day) Whitmore of Cross Lake; are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Donna Whitmore Jr. of Bangor, and Lee and Jamie Whitmore of Portland, Ore.; one daughter, Bonnie Whitmore and her fianc?, Barrett Willey, of Cross Lake; his stepmother, Frances Whitmore of Caribou; two sisters, Geraldine Dubay of Delevan, N.Y., and Betty Holdsworth of Caribou; seven grandchildren, Colby and Brittany Whitmore, Cole and Mac McElwain, Teale Panian, and Phil and Kevin Laughlin; three sisters-in-law, Goldie Whitmore of Presque Isle, Marilyn Whitmore of Tilley, New Brunswick and Aline Durost of Woodland; many wonderful nieces and nephews. Mr Whitmore was predeceased by five brothers, Gilbert, Robert, Norman, Paul and Harold. After David's wishes, there will be no services at this time. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring when everything is starting to grow again, at a date and time to be announced by Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou.
