David A. Hord, 82, Port Charlotte, died Dec. 7, 2005, at his home. He was born June 13, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo., and came to the Charlotte County area 30 years ago from there. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Essex aircraft carrier as a member of Torpedo Squadron 9, as well as serving in the Air Force Reserve. He worked as a supervisor for 30 years at the Post Office Supply Center in Topeka, Kan. He was a member of First Christian Church in Topeka. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy J.; a daughter, Patricia Ward of Seattle; and two nieces. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Alliance Church, 20444 Midway Blvd., Port Charlotte. Paul Schelm Funeral Home in Port Charlotte is in charge.
