DATHA ADELINE WILLIAMS SMITH Datha Adeline Williams Smith, 94, formerly of Fairmont WV, died in Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL on April 21, 2008, following a brief illness of acute leukemia. She was born September 23, 1913 in Fairmont, WV the daughter of Josie and Andrew Joseph Williams. She was the last surviving member of the A.J. Williams Family. Datha was a 1930 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She was active in the Fairmont General Hospital Auxiliary, Women's Club of Fairmont, Home Gardeners Club, original member of the Marcoda Dance Club, a member of the Fairmont Field Club and enjoyed bridge and sewing. Datha was a member of the Methodist Temple Church of Fairmont, WV and served on the United Methodist Women's District Board. She has resided in Vero Beach, FL since 1998 were she was a resident and active member of Oak Harbor and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vero Beach. She supported the Riverside Theatre and was an Indian River Medical Center Eagle. In 2002 she and her husband Gene established the Datha Gene Charitable Foundation. Since then it has provided charitable gifts to Fairmont State University for scholarships; West Virginia Wesleyan College for an endowment to fund maintenance of the Chapel; to IRMC hospital for their capital campaign, and to other worthwhile charities. Datha was preceded in death by her husband, of 70 years, Gene C. Smith, founder of J& S Machine Company, Fairmont, WV. She is survived by her devoted children- a son and daughter – in-law, E. Robert and Karolyn Smith of Fairmont, WV and two daughters and a son-in-law, Sue Carol Smith Post and Sharon Kay and David C Brown all of Vero Beach, FL. She is survived by eight grand children, Denise Post Rogers, Ashville, KY, Derek Post, Salisbury, MD, Brian Post, Salisbury, MD, Shelia Post Milonovich, San Antonio, TX, R. Chad Smith, Fairmont, WV, Greg E. Smith, Boulder, CO, Beth Brown Brock, Gillett WY, Charlie Brown, Washington, DC. She is also survived by fourteen Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in law Fred Post, sisters Mary Katherine Gallian, Rose Cleveland, brothers Robert and Joe Williams. A Memorial services is being held at Oak Harbor in Vero Beach on Thursday April 24, 2008 at 11am, Reverend Charles Lever officiating with reception following. Friends will be received at the Ford Funeral Home, R. C. Jones Chapel, at 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV on Friday, May 2, 2008 from 4pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be Saturday May 3, 2008 at 10 am at the Gateway United Methodist Church with Reverend D. D. Meighen officiating. Entombment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Garden Mausoleum. Pall bears will be grandsons Derek Post, Brian Post, Chad Smith, Greg Smith, Charlie Brown, Bryan Rogers, Steve Milonovich and Robert Brock. Honorary pall bears great grandsons Max Rogers, Tyler Post, Nick Milonovich and Cameron Smith. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fairmont General Hospital Foundation, the Datha Gene Foundation Scholarship at Fairmont State University or Indian River Medical Center Foundation.
