MADISON -- Darlene L. Davis, 49, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on May 4, 1962, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Roland B. and Melvina L. (Labun) Davis.She graduated from Madison Memorial High School in Madison, class of 1980, then she enrolled and graduated from the nursing program at the University of Maine in Augusta. After graduating from UMA, she was employed at North Country Associates/Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center as a Registered Nurse for many years and held several different positions within the company. Her most recent position was MDS Coordinator. Darlene was also a clinical instructor for Certified Nurse's Assistants/Medication Assistants program.Darlene loved gardening, mowing her lawn and was an avid reader, most recently using a Kindle, which she enjoyed. Darlene loved to go shopping on Saturdays with her sister Donna. She often accompanied Donna to fabric stores helping to select fabric for Donna's quilting projects. They spent many enjoyable hours shopping together.The family would like to thank Dr. Dina Jeannotte and the staff at Somerset Primary Care in Skowhegan for their support and kindness. As well as Dr. Abby Thrower and the staff at the Oncology Department at Redington-Fairview General Hospital; especially nurses Paula, Tammy, Becky and Linda for their wonderful care and kindness.Thank you to Beacon Hospice, especially Darlene's primary hospice nurse, Cindy, and her primary nurse's assistant, Kami, for their wonderful care and support. Also assistants, Theresa and Aaron ("my little Aaron" as she called her), for all their care and visits as well. A special thank you to all the volunteers (co-workers or past workers) from North Country Associates/Maplecrest and Somerset Rehabilitation and Living Centers who visited with Darlene and stayed with her during the night. Thank you to Deb Larrabee Golden, Darlene's friend and co-worker who comforted and visited her often; as well as Betty and Jerry Cole, who always came when the family asked for help, and to the many neighbors and friends who volunteered as well. A heart-felt thank you to Darlene's cousin, Sheila Kilkenney and husband Rodney, who did so much to assist the family; without their help, we could never have taken care of Darlene at home for as long as we did. It was Darlene's wish to remain at home during her final days, surrounded by family, friends and her dogs Chelsea and Chance. Without all of you, it would not have been possible for her to do that.She is survived by her parents Roland and Melvina (Labun) Davis; two sisters, Maureen Doyon and husband Yvon of Augusta, and Donna Davis of Madison; brother Dayson Davis and wife Robin of Madison; nieces, Danielle Doyon of Hermon, Delancy Davis and Raven Davis of Madison; nephew Brett Doyon of Augusta; several cousins, aunts and uncles; and many friends.A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Madison.
