Daniel Francis (Fran) Donovanof BinghamtonDaniel F. (Fran) Donovan, 90, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, followed the Lord home Friday, October 28, 2005. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel F. Donovan Jr.; parents, Cornelius William and Elizabeth (Ward) Donovan; brothers and sisters, Rev. Robert P. Donovan, Margaret Mary (Donovan) Campion, Helen Theresa (Donovan) O'Loughlin, Arthur R. Donovan, Joseph Ward Donovan, and Marion (Donovan) Donovan. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen (Wilcox) Donovan; five sons, Dr. John and Amy Donovan, Binghamton, Kevin and Valerie Donovan, Delmar, N.Y., Drs. Eugene and Mary Donovan, Farmville, Va., Martin and Kim Donovan, Canterbury, N.H., Kenneth and Martha Donovan, Apalachin, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Ellen Donovan Smith and Ron Smith, Heart Lake, Pa.; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brother, Edward James and Eleanor Donovan; sisters-in-law, Mary (Hogan) Donovan and A. Eleanor Wilcox; and 29 nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton. Born August 15, 1915, he graduated from St. Patrick Academy in Binghamton and he was a member of the Town Hall. He joined the US Army Air Corps in August 1942, where he was trained as a radio operator in Belleville, Ill., and stationed in Dodge City, Kans., where he married Helen Catherine Wilcox on March 2, 1944. Fran's career as a printer included positions at the US Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., where they lived in Landover, Md., and 37 years at Vail-Ballou Press of Binghamton, where he retired as Director of Purchasing. Blessed with a giving spirit, Fran previously served as president of Binghamton Kiwanis; president of Southern Tier Club of Printing House Craftsmen; board member of Catholic Social Services; board member of Broome County United Way; and president of the Deltona, Fla. Shuffleboard Club. He enjoyed golfing, wintering in Florida, and the rigors of raising six sons.A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton, Wednesday at 12 noon. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. Expressions of Sympathy in memory of Fran may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 1 Aquinas St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905. Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, N.Y.
