DAN OWENS, SR., 72Manager of Beef O' Brady's AUBURNDALE - Mr. Dan Owens, Sr. age 72, a resident of Auburndale, Florida passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center due to Brain Cancer. Mr. Owens was born September 15, 1936 in Miami, Florida to Duncan L. and Grace (Williams) Owens. Dan grew up in Miami Springs and raised his family. An Alumni of FSU, he worked for 40 years as a food broker starting out with his father at Duncan Owens Company and from 1971 -1995 worked with Bonacker & Leigh in Miami and Jacksonville where he became senior vice president. In 1996 he founded a family business in Jacksonville with his wife and son Dan. It was a popular design store call " h.o.m.". Dan was also in the United States Marine Reserve's in the 1950's. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Auburndale. He then retired to Auburndale 2002 and was the manager of Beef-O-Brady's owned by his son Duncan. He loved every minute there and created a huge extended family. He had a wonderful life, rich with family, friends, golf, boating, travel and lots of love. He was preceded in death by his father - Duncan L. Owens. Dan is survived by his loving and devoted family; wife of 53 years: Elizabeth Ann Owens of Auburndale, FL; mother: Grace W. Owens of Auburndale formally of N.C.; 2 sons: Dan Owens, Jr. of Miami, FL, Duncan John (Maryann) Owens of Haines City, FL; 1 Daughter: Deborah (Rick) Ploor of Brandon, FL; "Poppa" to Allison C. Floor of New York City, Sarah E. Ploor of Brandon, Darcie A. Owens of Auburndale and Tanner D. Owens of Auburndale; "Poppa Dan" to Jennifer Goff and her son (great grandson Bryce) of Auburndale; Nikki Burns and Johnathan Burns both of Haines City; Sisters-in-Law- Felicia & Gary Greer of Tampa; Patricia Moore of Long Beach, CA and Jean Shapen of Long Beach, CA; Brother-in-Law- Vincent & Yolanda Pessolano of Jacksonville; Nieces and Nephews - Michelle & Jack Albert of Vero Beach; Cathi & Kevin Schmidt of Valrico; Michael & Donna Gricoski of Tampa; Vincent III & Wendy Pessolano of Jacksonville and Lisa & Brad Holmes of Atlanta, GA; 12 Great nieces and nephews and his Beef-O-Brady's family in Auburndale, FL. In lieu of flowers donation's in Dan's name can be sent to; Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Florida, 33823. A memorial service will be held 6:30 PM Monday, September 14, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, 316 Lake Ariana Blvd., Auburndale.
