DALE L.TAYLOR, 70Watson Clinic WINTER HAVEN - Dale L. Taylor, M.D. of Winter Haven died of complications from diabetes Monday, September 17th, 2007. He was 70 years old. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 3, 1937 to Dr. Ross V. Taylor & Erma Leonard Taylor, Dr. Taylor graduated from Jackson (Michigan) H.S. in 1955, Albion College where he was a letterman swimmer, Cornell University Medical College in 1962, and Vanderbilt University Hospital Internship 1962-'63. From 1963 to 1965 he served our country as a lieutenant in the Medical Corps of the United States Navy (Camp Lejeune, NC). In 1965 he entered the University of Michigan Hospital - OB/GYN Residency. In 1969 he relocated to Polk County and began his medical career at the Watson Clinic in Lakeland where he was a partner until retirement in 1994. He continued to work with the Watson Clinic until 2003 assisting with quality and risk management initiatives. Dr. Taylor was heavily involved in a number of professional organizations serving as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Past-Chairman of District IV American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Past-Chairman of the Council of District Chairs, Past-Chairman Florida Section American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Past President Florida Obstetric & Gynecologic Society, Past President Norman F. Miller Gynecologic Society, and Past President Polk Medical Association. He was also a member the Florida Medical Association, the American Fertility Association, South Atlantic Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Society of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Taylor was a former recipient of the ACOG Outstanding District Service Award, and in 2007, was the first ever recipient of the ACOG District IV Lifetime Achievement Award. He was the first doctor in Polk County to perform laparoscopic surgery and first to surgically reverse tubal ligations. In 1998, he was appointed to the Florida Board of Accountancy by Governor Lawton Chiles. Dr. Taylor was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and sailing along with being an equestrian enthusiast. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Lee Taylor. He is survived by his wife Lisa Taylor of Winter Haven, twin brother Dr. Dean Taylor and his family of Baltimore, Maryland, son Christopher Taylor and his wife of Tampa, son Andrew Taylor and his family of Miami, daughter Marybeth Brisson and her husband of Sarasota, and stepchildren Thomas Wood, Jr. and his wife of Atlanta, Elizabeth Wood of Winter Haven and Shannon Wood of Winter Haven, one grandchild, three nieces and three nephews. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Steele's Family Funeral Services in Winter Haven. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.
