Dorothy J. Williams, 92, died Thursday August 19, 2010 in Concord, MA. She and her husband, the late Robert F. Williams, lived in Winchester from 1950-2009. She was born in Waterville, ME in 1917, the daughter of Carl C. Jones and Ruth M. Kimball, and grew up in Portland, ME and Concord, NH. She graduated from Colby Junior and Smith College and married her childhood sweetheart in 1942. They were married 62 years. In addition to raising three daughters, Ms Williams taught at the Forest Crest Farm Nursery School in Winchester. This combined her life-long love of children and animals. She was active in the First Congregational Church, serving as deacon and on many committees over the 50 years she and her family attended. Along with her husband, Robert, she volunteered at the Winchester Hospital for over 20 years, as well as the Smith Club and Winton Club. She is survived by two of her three children: Virginia Confer of Pepperell, MA and Jane Blumberg of Concord, MA. (Her daughter, Dorothy Hanning of Merrimack, NH, died in 2006). She was blessed with six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday August 26th at the First Congregational Church in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Congregational Church of Winchester, 21 Church St. Winchester, MA 01890 or the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (M.S.P.C.A.) 350 South Huntington Avenue Boston, MA 02130. Arrangements were under the care of the Lane Funeral Home of Winchester.
