DAVIS, DORIS GLASSER, 82, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2006 after an unexpected illness with pancreas cancer. A native and former resident for 64 years of Syracuse, NY, she had lived in PA, VA, MD and Lake County, FL. Her parents, two brothers, and sister predeceased her. Doris is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, George R. Davis, in Altoona, FL, and their Chihuahua, "Dyna", as well as their three children and their families: Dwight R. Davis, his wife Vicki and their three children of W. Hartford, CT; Brad P. Davis, his wife Jeannie and their two adult children of Ft. Lauderdale and Kathy Davis Gillikin and her husband, Edward, of Richmond, VA. Doris was a polio and Great Depression survivor. She loved animals, traveling, working with young adults, creative writing, singing and dancing. She had B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Syracuse University in English and Latin education. She taught middle and high school for over thirty years, including a few years at Drew Boarding School in Carmel, NY and many years with Onondaga Central School District in Syracuse. Doris was an active volunteer with student organizations, the Girl Scouts of America and Syracuse's Community Hospital. She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Syracuse and served on their Christian Education Committee, taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed trailer camping across the country several times with her family. Throughout her senior years, Doris stayed active with drama club, singing, walling, playing Bridge, square dancing, traveling and volunteering with various groups. Doris and George made several trips together including Hawaii, Greece, Turkey, Ephesus, Romania, Australia, and the Panama Canal, Far East. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend who will be sorely missed by all. A Memorial Service is being planned at Lakeview Terrace in July.
