Delia Yvonne Carter departed this life on July 24, 2001. She was the adopted daughter of the late Nathaniel and Delia Blakes Sims. She was born on February 2, 1940 to Martha Sims and Newton Phillips. She graduated from Mercy College with a B.A. in Psychology. On March 19, 1959 she married George Carter. Delia worked as a L.P.N. for 16 years at Professional Hospital and for 17 years at Leake and Watts Childrens Home until her retirement in 1997. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, George Carter, her sons, Donald A. and Randy B. Sims, 4 sisters, Loretta Corse, Ruby Tracy, Ruth Richards and Josephine Brightwell, 2 brothers, George D. Phillips and Robert N. Phillips, one grandchild, Alexandria Carter, 2 other sisters, Zelma Coleman and Mable Custis and a host of other relatives and friends. Reposing (today) , 6-8 pm Brooks Memorial Home, Inc., 275 Warburton Ave., Yonkers. Funeral Service Friday, 10 am at the funeral home. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
