Dayton was born in Okaloosa County, Florida and served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was proud to have served as a force recon and was a decorated member of the United States Marine Corps. After the war, he worked for many years as a long haul truck driver and retired as a trucker for the Coca Cola Bottling Company. He is survived by his wife, Kay Bland; son: Dayton Lee Smith, III, both of Millbrook; Daughters: Shawn Brown and husband Barry, of Alexander City; Melissa Moomey and husband Josh, of Millbrook; Mother: Augusta M. Smith, of Manassas, Va.; Sisters: Theresa Hunter, Haymarket, Va.; Jackie Jerman, Richmond, Va.; Brother: Dale Smith, Columbus, Ga.; Grandchildren: Shelby Colwell, Cody A. Smith, Abigail Brown and Logan Moomey. Visitation will be from 3:30 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Leak Memory Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 5 pm.
