David Gordon Henderson, truly a fine British Gentleman, died in his home in Cortlandt Manor, NY, on Wednesday, June 27, succumbing to a two year battle with cancer. His wife, and longtime partner, Patricia Ercoli Henderson was by his side. He was 64 years old. Born in Reading, Barkshire, England on August 11, 1936, David served in the British Army Intelligence Corps from 1954-1961. During his term of service he was stationed in many different regions of the world, including Asia and the Middle East. He served an additional seven years in Her Majesty's Reserve Forces. David embarked on his lifelong career in the tabletop and giftware industries when he came to America in 1968 as a District Sales Manager for the Spode China Company. In 1973 he joined Bing & Grondahl Copenhagen Porcelain. David was a driving force in bringing Danish tableware, artware and collectibles to the forefront of the American Continent. In 1986, following the mergers of Royal Copenhagen Porcelain, George Jensen Silversmiths, Bing & Grondahl Copenhagen Porcelain and Holmegaard Glassworks, David was appointed Vice President of Marketing within the new organization. David served as a member of the board of the Collectible Platemaker's Guild. In 1994 Mr. Henderson proudly became an American citizen. A man of great dignity, integrity, intelligence and steadfast purpose, David offered energy and untiring devotion as both a friend and colleague. He retired in 2000 after 32 years of service to an industry he helped form. A former member of Knollwood Country Club, David was an avid golfer with an infectious joie de vivre. In an ever-changing world, David offered warmth, wisdom and compassion reminiscent of days gone by. He will be missed by all privileged to have known him. In addition to his wife Patricia Ercoli Henderson, David is survived by two stepdaughters, Mary Michele Walsh, 27, and Antoinette Ercoli, 25, of Connecticut, and one brother, Peter, sister-in-law Mary, and three nieces in England. A memorial service is planned Monday, July 2, at 11 am at Valeria Commons, 341 Furnace Dock Road, Cortlandt Manor, NY. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Hospice Organization, Mt. Kisco, NY.
