JOHNSON, Darlene, of Thonotosassa, 62 years old, born March 1, 1946, in Gardner, Mass., a 21-year employee at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, a clinical research associate and a program administrator for radiation oncology and the senior adult programs, passed away October 3, 2008, after a four- year battle with cancer. A pioneer in Quality of Life Research in radiotherapy of cancer, she authored two dozen journal publications, two medical book chapters and delivered 15 oral presentations on patient quality of life throughout the world. She played a leadership role in the development of national standards and the first certification program for academic and community research associates. She was the past editor of The Journal of Oncology Management. She was a member of St. Catherine' s Episcopal Church in Temple Terrace. She sang with The Master Chorale at the University of South Florida for several years. She was on the board of directors for the Tampa Bay Children' s Chorus. She was a lifelong member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a professional music fraternity, a local, state and national office and chairman of the board of directors for their philanthropies program. She received her bachelor' s and master' s degrees from the University of Tampa. She is survived by her husband Frank Sr., son, Frank Jr., his wife. Cindy, grandchildren. William, Anthony and Ashley, her daughter, Janette Smith of Charleston, S.C., her husband, Garran, and granddaughter, Addison. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, at St. Catherine' s Church, 502 Druid Hills Road, Temple Terrace, (813) 988-6483.
