ROCKY FORD – Cynthia (Cindy) Kay Sowell Carter, age 54, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2009, surrounded by family at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, after a long, courageous struggle with MS. She was born in Chatham County and was a longtime member of Rocky Ford United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and an active member of the United Methodist Women Group. She was preceded in death by her Mother: Gladyce Ward Sowell. Survivors: Husband: George Hiram Carter of Rocky Ford; daughter and son-in-law: Leslie and Wayne Dixon of Rocky Ford; son and daughter-in-law: Josh and Liz Spitler of Marietta, Ga.; Father: Josh Crawford Sowell of Guyton; sisters and brothers-in-law: Susan S. and Floyd Harbin of Richmond Hill and Jan D. and Jerry Landing of Guyton; grandchildren: Nikki Spitler and Joshua Spitler of Rocky Ford; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation: Sunday, March 22, 2009, from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. held at Rocky Ford United Methodist Church. Funeral Services: Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church with Rev. Jonine Northrip officiating. Burial at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ray Carter, James Aldrich, Ralph Carter, Jordan Harbin, Jeffrey Donaldson and Taylor Landing.
