NELSON, CURTIS H. "CURT", 84 Lake City - Mr. Curtis H. "Curt" Nelson, 84, of Lake City died Monday, August 14, 2006 at his home. He was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 1, 1922 to the late T. Helmer and Ethel Peterson Nelson. Mr. Nelson attended area schools, including the University of Minnesota. In September 1942 he entered the Army at Ft. Snelling, MN, later serving in the Signal Intelligence Service and the Army Security Agencies (forerunners of the present day National Security Agency). Following discharge in January 1946, he began his business career with Northwestern National Bank of Minneapolis. In 1951, he moved to Fargo, ND with Warner and Company; a financial institution, where as vice president, he managed the real estate, mortgage banking and appraisal operations until retiring in 1980. Mr. Nelson and his wife, Lois, who preceded him in death, moved to Lake City, FL, where he became an appraiser for the Florida Department of Revenue. Later, he served as chief appraiser for the Columbia County Property Appraisers office from which position he retired in 1997. He was a life member of the Appraisal Institute with the SRA designation. As a life long Republican, he served as chairman of the Columbia County Executive Committee for two terms. Through the years, Mr. Nelson enjoyed music which as a main hobby with him, having played in military bands. He had been a baritone principal of the Fargo-Moorhead Opera Company, as well as soloing for years in oratorios and cantatas.. He was a long time member of the American Legion and served as commander of the Fargo Post and was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Lake City. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew.Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife of 19 years, Genevieve Nelson Lake City, two sons, Randall C. Nelson (Connie), Waynesville, NC and Craig B. Nelson (Elizabeth), Birmingham, AL, one daughter, Vicki Copeland (John), Jupiter, FL. Three grandsons, Bradley and Travis Sargent and Jeff Nelson (Amy), two granddaughters, Emily and Abby Nelson, Birmingham, AL and two great grandchildren, Sam and Delaney Nelson, St. Paul, MN also survive.Memorial services for Mr. Nelson will be conducted on Friday, August 18, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Jeffrey Tate, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to Haven Hospice of The Suwannee Valley, Lake City Capital Campaign, 618 SW Florida Gateway Drive, Lake City, FL 32024 or First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 973 S.
