Curtis Eugene (Gene) Moore - TELLICO VILLAGE, TN - Curtis Eugene (Gene) Moore, a resident of Tellico Village, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Colonial Hills Nursing Home in Maryville. Gene was born in South Knoxville on November 30, 1934. He attended Knoxville High School and was in the first graduating class at South High School. He graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1956. Subsequently he graduated from the U. S. Navy Officer Candidate School. After further training at Sandia Base, NM, he served on board USS Saratoga (CVA-60) and at the Nuclear Weapons Training Center, Atlantic Fleet. He met and married his wife, Linda while serving in Norfolk, VA. After his naval service, Gene was employed by Union Camp Corporation, a forest products company. During his 31 years with Union Camp he held various management positions and he and Linda lived in Franklin VA, Savannah GA, Wayne NJ and Orange, TX. Upon retirement in 1993 they moved to Tellico Village. They have thoroughly enjoyed boating, traveling and the beauty of the East Tennessee area. Gene enjoyed golf for many years, having played approximately 100 courses. For many years he sang in various choral organizations - among them were the Knoxville High School Choir, the Knoxville Choral Society, the UT Singers and the UT Opera Workshop. He also sang in the Savannah Symphony Orchestra Choral Society and Savannah Little Theater, "Inherit The Wind", "Promise's Promise's and "Show Boat". Preceded in death by parents, Joe and Hester Hackworth Moore and daughter, Jodi Yardman. He is survived by his loving wife and companion of 49 years, Linda Darnell Moore; son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Dr. Geni Moore of Maryville; son-in-law, Scott Yardman of Black Creek, GA; grandchildren, Brian and Jessica Yardman and Michael, Madison and Bradley Moore; brother and sister- in-law, Joe and Barbara Moore of Jonesborough. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in South Knoxville with Dr. Charlie Barnard officiating. Military honors will be conferred.
