Cora D. Smith, 93, Port Charlotte, died March 20, 2003. She was born June 2, 1909, in Saylesville, R.I., and came to Port Charlotte 28 years ago from Taunton, Mass. She was a buyer for the Mars Bargain Land Department Stores for 18 years. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Survivors include sons Joseph of Johnston, R.I., and James of Wilmington, N.C.; daughters Jean Lessard of Port Charlotte and Carol Beene of Petros, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Private memorial services will be later. Kays-Ponger/Royal Palm Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Guadalupe Social Services, P.O.
