WHITE, Clara (nee Stein) After a brief illness, Clara passed away at home, on Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the age of ninety-eight. Clara began her life in a home with a dirt floor in the village of Kalus, Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of sixteen, in 1929, settling in Montreal and going to work in the garment industry. With her husband Dave (1911-1994) she lived in Thunder Bay, Toronto and Windsor before returning to Montreal in 1947. Clara was active in political causes and had a keen interest in literature (Russian, Yiddish and English) and the Arts. She is survived by her brother Boris Stein; her children, Deena (David Moscovitch) and Norman (Barbara Arbess); her grandchildren, Michael White (Ada Mullet), Eyal Artzy (Sharon Beaumont) and Misha Artzy (Melanie Keirl); her great-grandchildren, Alexa, Jack, Layla, Eli, Zoey and Emily; and by her niece Adrienne Stein (Tim Durkin). The family wishes to offer special thanks to the staff of Place Kensington, Dr. Paul Lysy, and to the personnel of the Palliative care unit at CLSCs Metro and Cote des Neiges for their sensitive and efficient help at the end of Clara's life. Funeral service took place from Paperman & Sons on Sunday, September 5. Family and friends will be received between 6 and 9 p.m. on September 5, 6 and 7 at 4103 Grand Boulevard, N.D.G.
