Claire Morrissette Pothier May 9, 1920 - December 13, 2010 Voluntown - Claire Pothier, 90, of Bennett Road passed away Monday morning in the loving care of the Village Manor staff. She was born May 9, 1920 in St. Michele des Saints P.Q.Canada, daughter of the late William and Alberta (Duran) Morrissette. Her family moved to the USA when she was 13. Due to her mother's illness, she, sister Bertha Auger, and brother John Morrissette lived at Holy Family Academy Baltic boarding school until the family was reunited. The Academy is credited with teaching Claire and her siblings fluent English. Upon graduation from the Academy, she worked in the office of Ponemha Mills. Claire a diabetic at 15 years old, managed her disease for 75 years. On July 18, 1942 she married her sweetheart Rene A. Pothier. Rene served in the US Army Air Corps. WWII separated the newlyweds for a few long years. The month prior to their first son's birth she received no communication from Rene; the day Gene was born 30 letters arrived. They celebrated 63 years of marriage while residing in Taftville and Beach Pond Voluntown. Rene cared for her thru frequent illness and she in turn cared for him the last 10 years of his life. Their life and marriage was an inspiration to their children. She enjoyed being a full time mother to her three children Eugene Pothier, Daniel Pothier, and Denise Lambert. Memere leaves a hole in the hearts of her grandchildren Amy and Laurie Pothier, Dennis and Jason Pothier, Brad and Todd Lambert, Jamie and Steven Wilczek, and six great grandchildren. She appreciated the comfort provided by her children's spouses Rita Pothier, Anita Pothier, Robert Lambert, and good friends Trudy O'Connell and caregiver Vadim (Jim). Her greatest sorrow was the death of her son Gene in 2008. The Funeral will assemble 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Rd, Rte 138 Jewett City.
