->Claire Casey BENNINGTON, VT. Claire Marie Casey, 88, a resident of Hamden, CT and more recently of Bennington, VT. passed away peacefully at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015.She was born in Bennington to Gedeon and Hazel (LaFlamme) LaCroix. A graduate of Sacred Heart School and Bennington High School, she attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield to become an RN in 1947. That same year she married Daniel Casey of Albany, NY who attended Villanova University and taught at Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT. Claire later attended Southern Connecticut University where she received both a Bachelors and Masters Degree. She joined the teaching profession with her husband and taught at Hamden High School for over 20 years. Both were dedicated educators. In retirement they spent summers at their Woodford camp. Mr. Casey died May 20, 2004. Survivors include brother, Gedeon LaCroix of Arlington, her two sisters, Dolores Chapman of Raleigh, NC and Elaine Sacheau of Araphoe, NC along with nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration Mass of Claire's life will be held this spring at a time to be announced. Funeral arrangements are under the direction Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
